History Of the Palace of Lima Laras

Let's talk to the other side of a king's palace. About tale kingdom Malays who have never written in school history book. About a past grandeur, which had not even heard always.

Palace Lima Laras is a forgotten history. His name is less well known than the palace in Medan. Though not completely solid, the Palace of Lima Laras still standing in the village of Lima Laras, District of Tanjung Tiram, District shavings. Approximately 136 kilometers southeast of Medan.

At first glance from the front of the palace buildings green color looks faded. Four-story palace built in 1912 it had rotted and was eaten by the time another interesting visit. Maybe because the condition was also then in the tourism brochures of North Sumatra, the palace Lima Laras not listed again as one tourist attraction. Palace which is above the land area of 102 x 98 meters was built Datuk Matyoeda, King of the Kingdom of Lima Laras XII, formerly the king's eldest son, Datuk Sri H Djafar title of King Indra. Originally this palace was called the palace's intention, because its development plans based on Matyoeda intention to establish a royal palace for it. Five previous royal government center barrel is subject to the Sultanate of Siak in Riau and is expected to have existed since the sixteenth century, moved around a lot because it has not had a permanent court.

Datuk intention Matyoeda itself originated from the Dutch decision which prohibits the Kings trade. No obvious reason for this prohibition. Matyoeda which often trade to Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand and has a big ship, of course furious. Especially when the results came out, some of their commercial fleet was sailing to Malaysia. Given this restriction, the fate of the ship along with its contents was not guaranteed anymore. Netherlands could be confiscated upon his arrival back in the shavings, or can stay in Malaysia which was still called Malacca. That is why Matyoeda intend, if the merchandise last survivors, the results will be used to build the palace. Apparently, the ship returned safely. So he then built the palace at a cost of 150 000 guilders and led the court to direct development to bring 80 experts from China and Penang, Malaysia as well as a number of artisans from around the location of the palace.

Matyoeda with his family and his government elements inhabit the palace since 1917, although at that time the palace was still unfinished. Time of his death on June 7, 1919, as well as the end marker Lima Laras royal heyday. 1942 Japanese troops entered the palace and ruled shavings. Only in the Military Aggression II, the palace back in the hands of the Republic and occupied by Indonesian Navy under the command of Major Dahrif Nasution.

Four Pavilion

Palace overlooking the south it has four platforms in the four cardinal directions. In front there is a small building where the two cannons are located. Ham pear overall architecture of the building Malays, especially on the model and the lattice-lattice roof. But there are also some parts of China's ornate palaces. Except for bricks, building materials such as glass for windows and doors was imported from abroad.

The first floor is made of concrete, equipped hall or place of deliberation rung. On the floor there are two and three bedrooms with sizes of about 6 x 5 meters. In total, this palace has 28 doors and 66 pairs of windows. To rise to the level two and three, in addition to regular stairs on the outside, there is a spin ladder with 27 steps from the inside.

If a visit to the palace today, still can not imagine seeing a spiral staircase is still intact. Some steps have been lost and the center has dropped out due to rotting. Do not expect to also see signs of the former splendor of the throne or equipment that kingdom in the past, because most equipment was destroyed or disappeared palace. Datuk Muhammad Azminsyah (62), one grandson Datuk Matyoeda, lucky to still have some stuff heritage palace equipment, such as a large jar with carved dragons, some crockery items, two swords and a spear. Goods were stored in his house which is about 100 meters from the palace.

Palace Lima Laras nowadays, it was in the repair phase. First and second floor rear of the palace have been repaired and painted. Small fixes only postpone the destruction of nature, because the main building at the front is still a mess. The walls are bercopotan boards, as well as roof and floor. Some pillars were made of wood similar fate.

According to Maddin (70) who daily take care of the palace, the cost of the improvement came from a family party. "Government support has long been absent. When holidays such as Idul Fitri, there is an additional cost of repair of the quotation signed USD 500 per person. "Maddin said that states could collect Rp 30 thousand on the second Idul Fitri.

Indeed only the income expectations of quotations visitors.Unfortunately. visitors who only come at Lebaran course, it was dominated by children around the village. In addition to the renovation of the problem, the entrance to the site also damaged and not the views of the township kumuhnya eligible for sale into the domestic tourists, especially foreigners.

The last renovation done by the government only in 1980/1981 at a cost of USD 234 million, while still managed by Department of Education Regional Office of North Sumatra. Once submitted to the Government shavings since 14 September 1990, there is practically no longer any improvement. Though efforts to preserve the palace is very important to remember history and cultural values they contain.

Palace Lima Laras no longer inhabited. At night, no lighting means.Courtyard is also overgrown with shrubs whose height can reach one meter more. Because of her condition, so never appear in newspapers the news of concern, the palace became a place to play Five Barrel gambling. Tragic!
